Conditions of play for

"2012"

  1. The competition:

    The competition shall be known as the “Gateway Summer Shield and shall commence on the last Saturday of January each year.

    The event shall be divided into divisions depending on the number of nominations received.

    The event shall be comprised of three divisions viz: Divisions A, B and C.

    Division A to be bowlers from Divisions 1, 2 and 3 (pennant rating)
    Division B to be bowlers from Divisions 4, 5 and 6 (pennant rating)
    Division C to be bowlers from Divisions 7, 8 and 9 (pennant rating).
    A side shall consist of one team of pairs, two teams of triples and one team of fours. (Total – 12 players).

    The competition to run for approximately 7 weeks.

    Starting time:
    Play will be conducted on Saturdays commencing at 1.00pm. If play is not possible at this time due to unforseen circumstances, then play can be rescheduled for another time by mutual consent between the Clubs concerned.

    Trial ends shall be allowed if desired.

  2. Eligibility:

    (a)  Players must be financial male members of a Club affiliated with Gateway D.B.A.
    (b)  Players who have played more than one game in Premier league or Super challenge are not eligible.
    (c)  2 games in a Division will qualify the players for finals play.
    (d)  Clubs with 2 sides in one Division will be treated as separate identities and when qualified must not be interchanged.
    (e)  Any breach of the rules may result in Club forfeiting all points.

  3. Scoring:

    Two points for an overall win.
    One point for a draw.
    One point for a rink win.
    If a tie exists at the end of any rink play ˝ a point will be allocated to each team.

    Finals:
    There must be a winner on all rinks in a finals game.
    An extra end/s to be played to determine a winner should there be an equal score on any rink.
    Winners and Runners-up will play off to determine a winner in each division.

  4. Playing conditions:

    (a)  All games to be played under the Laws of the Sport of the Game (Crystal mark edition).
    (b)  Pairs shall be 21 ends, 4 bowls (Lead and Skip to play 2 bowls alternately).
    (c)  Triples shall be 28 ends, 2 bowl.
    (d)  Fours shall be 21 ends, 2 bowl.
    (e)  If a match is washed out or abandoned due to any legitimate reason the Clubs involved will score 3 points each. With reference to points for and against – 60 ends constitutes a match.

  5. Nomination fee:

    The nomination fee shall be $120.00 per side. (Clubs may nominate multiple sides if they wish).
    Nominations close on 1st October each year.

  6. Green fees:

    Green fees to be paid to the players home Club at their usual Club rate. Finals paid to host Club.

  7. Attire:

    Club uniform.

  8. Trophy:

    A shield to be provided for the winners of each division.
    Prize money will be allocated to winners and runners up.

  9. Results: (Responsibility of host Club).

    Results to be faxed to the Gateway match committee (Fax 3823 5061) immediately after game.

  10. Control:

    The Gateway match committee shall have control of the event with the power to alter the programme or conditions of play if deemed necessary or expedient.
